Education is the Seed to Success:
Kenyan Project
AELTA is providing volunteer
educational advising to the Kenyan Khadija Orphan
School. In an effort to help boost the quality
of education in the third world, AELTA provides
the following services to the school:
- Curriculum development for the early childhood
education program.
- Advising in school improvement planning
- Teacher training (under development)
- Teacher Resources
- AELTA members have also volunteered to support
an orphan through the school’s program.
This will help in documenting the school’s
progress through the perspective of one student.
Khadija
Centre
About the School
Khadija Centre started in 2003, as a non-profit
organization dedicated to orphans. The Centre
is located in a small village in East Africa called
Rabai, about 60 miles from the coast of Mombasa.
The goal of the Centre is to host and educate
young orphans from the nearby villages in Rabai.
Once completed, the Centre will provide a shelter
that fosters education, as well as, provide a
warm shelter that encourages individuality and
productivity. Currently, only kindergarten through
primary school is established. The curriculum
followed is the nationally accredited KCSE, which
offers education in the English language.
AELTA, an organization that promotes
literacy of the English language and encourages
peace education has collaborated with Khadija
Centre to provide teacher resources, teaching
aides and school supplies and stationary for the
teachers. The goal is to foster capacity building
for teachers that will allow them to be skilled
at effectively delivering knowledge to disadvantaged
children.
The following items have
been donated to the Centre:
- Kindergarten Curriculum and resources for
teachers to support reading readiness
- Teacher resources for Early Childhood Education
- Teacher resources and aides for classroom
management techniques.
- School supplies and stationary (pens, pencils,
notebooks, crayons, glue, staplers, etc.)
- Teacher training resources and booklets.
- Affiliation to the AELTA Professional Development
Center Affilate School Program free of charge.
