AdvancED, world leader in accreditation and school improvement and a conglomeration of 6 US regional accreditation commissions, has renewed its recognition and approval of the AELTA International Teacher Certificate (ITC) program. Any teacher holding a bachelor's degree and completing this program is fully deemed employable in any of AdvancED globally accredited schools. AdvancED has a network of 32,000 institutions in more than 70 countries, while serving over 600 institutions outside of the United States.

AELTA - AGP is now offering certified Six Sigma programs. Our qualified, certified, US-based Six Sigma experts cover effective methodology for improving the performance of any organization by minimizing the defects in its products or services. Six Sigma is based on targeted and critical analysis of processes and outcomes to determine deficiencies and determine a path to minimize these deficiencies. AELTA has successfully delivered a seminar to 150 educators on the topic, "Paradigm Shift: 21st Century Teaching and Learning - Ensuring Teacher Evaluations Lead to Teacher Growth". The seminar was conducted in a local Omani private school auditorium. A follow-up project will be executed with these educators to collect data on the impact of clinical observation in classroom learning environments in local private schools.

The AELTA Professional Development Center successfully completed its re-accreditation review visit from January 10-15. The AdvancED Review Team has recommended the center for full re-accreditation for an additional 5-year term.

The final Needs Assessment for Quality Assurance Training and Support series of workshops was conducted in the College of Applied Sciences in Nizwa (CAS-Nizwa). Participants of all CASs will continue to use the needs assessment tools to inform their specific needs in the areas of training and resource support. AELTA-CSI will analyze all data collected from focus group activities, discussion with quality assurance staff, and various needs assessment surveys throughout all of the CASs in Oman to develop a thorough training and support plan to be presented to Her Excellency Dr. Rawya Al Busaidia, the Minister of Higher Education.

The College of Applied Sciences in Salalah (CAS-Salalah), Sultanate of Oman hosted a successful workshop on Needs Assessment for Quality Assurance. The workshop focused on equipping staff to utilize needs assessment tools and analyze data to inform professional development and support resources planning. Participants included the assistant dean, heads of departments, faculty and non-academic staff involved in quality assurance processes. CAS-Salalah will continue to work with AELTA-CSI to develop a thorough needs-based recommendation for training and support in the area of quality assurance as the institution works towards achieving accreditation.

The workshop, "Needs Assessment for Quality Assurance Training and Support" was conducted at the College of Applied Sciences in Sur (CAS-Sur). Participants included the assistant dean, heads of departments, faculty, administrators and quality assurance staff. Participants learned methods and usage of tools to identify priorities in training and support as they undergo quality assurance and accreditation processes. They engaged in collaborative activities to unpack their recommendations and determine specific, targeted needs.

The College of Applied Sciences in Rustaq (CAS-Rustq) hosted the workshop, "Needs Assessment for Quality Assurance Training and Support". Participants included the assistant dean, heads of departments, faculty, administrators and quality assurance staff. The program was intended to provide an overview of needs assessments and provide tools that CAS-Rustaq can utilize to extract specific training and support needs as they endeavor along the path of quality assurance and accreditation. The training provider, Alazizi Global Projects, will conduct similar sessions in other CASs throughout the Sultanate. The workshop was well received by CAS-Rustaq participants, which have already requested additional professional development to better equip stakeholders to be active members in the quality assurance process.

November 2014 Project Highlight
AELTA-CSI is honored to collaborate with the Ministry of Higher Education of the Sultanate of Oman in a comprehensive needs assessment project for the Colleges of Applied Sciences (CASs) in quality assurance and accreditation. With the support and leadership of Her Excellency, Dr. Rawya Al Busaidia, needs assessment workshops have been commissioned to be conducted for CASs throughout the Sultanate to determine next steps in training and support as the CASs undergo quality assurance improvement towards accreditation.

November 2014 Partnership Highlight
AELTA-CSI and EDU Professional Development Webinars. AELTA-CSI and the University of Colorado Denver EDU Center formalize a partnership to support professional development of teachers in the Middle East and other regions through online webinars and instructional tools. The first of a series of EDU webinars was conducted on November 11, 2014 with attendees from Oman, Saudi Arabia, UK, Botswana and India. Participants learned about technology integration standards and tools to facilitate innovative teaching and learning. Co-facilitators are Dr. Laura Summers, Director of EDU and Waheeda Said, Director of AELTA-CSI. Schools have the option of reduced membership discounts, online training, and online instructional tools from EDU, and onsite support and collaboration from AELTA-CSI. Interested schools should send an email to courses@aelta.org with EDU membership in the subject.

New Program: Integrated Master's
July 2014 - October 2014
AELTA -CSI and the University of Colorado Denver School of Education and Human Development extend their partnership to designing a Master's program addressing 21st century global learning. Curriculum design meetings initiated in July 2014 and the program details were finalized in Oct. 2014. The program aligns to needs in the Middle East and initiates with the first 6 credits from the AELTA - UCD partnership course. AELTA and UCD faculty will co-teach courses with onsite facilitation from AELTA for online components taught by UCD faculty.

June 22-23, 2014
A successful professional development workshop, Creative Teaching to Engage Learners, was completed for the College of Applied Sciences of Ibri, Muscat. Professors, assistant professors, adjunct professors and professor assistants participated in an interactive workshop that explored the use of multiple instructional approaches to engage learners. Participants learned how to integrate an array of technology resources into their curriculum to create student-centric activities. Several questioning techniques were practiced to boost students' high level and critical thinking skills. Overall, survey satisfaction results indicated that participants benefited from the workshop, which targeted the CAS-Ibri instructional development needs.

AELTA successfully executes a course for the Sultanate of Oman's Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) College of Applied Sciences in Sohar (CAS-Sohar) in which professors, assistant professors, department heads, quality assurance directors and administrative staff participated in an engaging workshop on the Overview of Principles & Processes of Quality Assurance & Accreditation. The workshop received significant positive feedback. Immediately after the completion of the workshop, the Head of Quality Assurance requested additional follow-up training to support CAS-Sohar through its improvement process.

AELTA successfully executes a customized workshop, Responding to the Quality Audit Report, for the College of Applied Sciences in Ibri (CAS-Ibri) in the Sultanate of Oman. The workshop was designed to guide CAS-Ibri steering committee and sub-committees to respond to the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) Quality Audit recommendations and affirmations. A step-wise method was introduced to ensure that all aspects of the recommendation were understood, addressed with rationalized responses, and integrated into action plans. Participants included the assistant dean, faculty, quality assurance department and administrative staff. Satisfaction feedback, collected both orally and through surveys, indicated that the workshop was beneficial, effective, and met local needs.

AELTA and its collaborators successfully executed an intensive Accreditation Preparation training program for seven leading universities throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Universities' leadership, including professors and quality assurance heads, were trained on the principles and process of accreditation, establishing effective steering and sub-committees, and writing a self study report.
